Pantera was the metal band formed by brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul.
The Abbott brothers formed the group in Arlington, Texas, in 1981. Dimebag Darrell played guitar and Vinnie Paul played drums, while the band's lineup later became widely known for the addition of vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown.
Pantera moved from an early glam-metal style toward a heavier, groove-oriented sound. Albums such as Cowboys from Hell and Vulgar Display of Power made the band a major force in 1990s American metal.
Dimebag Darrell was born Darrell Lance Abbott, and Vinnie Paul was born Vincent Paul Abbott. After Pantera ended, the brothers formed Damageplan, which released its only studio album, New Found Power, in 2004.
