Pantera recorded the 1992 album Vulgar Display of Power. The record helped popularize groove metal through syncopated riffs, aggressive vocals, muscular production, and a strong emphasis on rhythmic impact.
The album includes "Mouth for War," "This Love," "Fucking Hostile," and "Walk." Guitarist Dimebag Darrell, vocalist Phil Anselmo, bassist Rex Brown, and drummer Vinnie Paul formed the lineup heard on the record.
The title comes from a line in the 1973 film The Exorcist. Machine Head, Sepultura, and Exodus were also important heavy bands, but Pantera made Vulgar Display of Power. The album followed Cowboys from Hell, which helped mark the band's move toward groove metal.
