The Mercedes-Benz electric concept car that claimed a 1,000-kilometre energy-efficiency range was the VISION EQXX.
Mercedes-Benz unveiled the VISION EQXX at CES in January 2022 as a research prototype focused less on fitting a huge battery and more on reducing energy use. The company targeted consumption below 10 kWh per 100 kilometres, supported by a streamlined body with a drag coefficient of 0.17, low rolling-resistance tyres, lightweight magnesium wheels and a highly efficient electric drivetrain.
In April 2022, the prototype travelled 1,008 kilometres from Sindelfingen, Germany, to Cassis, France, on one charge in real traffic. It averaged 8.7 kWh per 100 kilometres and still had roughly 15% battery charge remaining. A later Stuttgart-to-Silverstone journey reached 1,202 kilometres, while a 2024 Riyadh-to-Dubai run covered 1,010 kilometres.
The EQXX was not a production model, and its test results should not be confused with a standard consumer-car range rating. Its purpose was to demonstrate technologies later applicable to Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles.
