Unlike most Mario Kart tracks, Toad’s Turnpike places racers on a broad highway shared with ordinary vehicles. Trucks, buses, and cars move along the roadway, forcing players to dodge traffic while maintaining speed and avoiding collisions. The vehicles follow fixed lanes rather than competing as racers.
The course’s highway setting makes it one of Mario Kart 64’s clearest attempts at a real-world-style driving environment. Its challenge becomes especially noticeable in the 150cc and Mirror modes, when traffic patterns and opposing road layouts demand more precise steering.
The other listed options have very different settings.
