Which marathon is famous for finishing inside the Panathenaic Stadium?
Answer
Athens Marathon
Answer
Athens Marathon
The Athens Marathon, officially the Athens Marathon. The Authentic, finishes inside the Panathenaic Stadium.
The race follows a route from the town of Marathon to central Athens, broadly recalling the direction associated with the ancient messenger story. Its finish is inside the Panathenaic Stadium, the historic marble venue that hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
The course is known for its sustained uphill middle section, particularly between roughly kilometres 10 and 31, before descending toward Athens. That profile makes it substantially more demanding than many flat city marathons.
The event was first held in 1972 and is organized by the Hellenic Athletics Federation. It is called “The Authentic” to distinguish its route from ordinary city races using the name Athens. The stadium is also called Kallimarmaro, meaning “beautifully marbled.”
