Which marathon became the sixth Abbott World Marathon Major in 2013?

The story behind the answer

The Tokyo Marathon became the sixth Abbott World Marathon Major in 2013.

Tokyo joined the original group of major city marathons after the World Marathon Majors organization expanded to include it. The six established races are Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City.

The Tokyo Marathon was first held in 2007. It is staged in Japan’s capital and attracts elite athletes and large fields of recreational runners. Its inclusion gave the World Marathon Majors a major Asian event and created a six-race global series.

The series name was originally World Marathon Majors. Abbott later became the title sponsor, which is why modern references commonly use Abbott World Marathon Majors. Tokyo is not the same event as the older Olympic marathon held in the city in 1964.
