Which manufacturer built the Aston Martin DBR1 that won the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans?

The story behind the answer

Aston Martin built the Aston Martin DBR1 that won the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The DBR1 was a sports racing car designed for Aston Martin’s competition program. Its most important victory came at Le Mans in 1959, when Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby shared the winning car.

That result gave Aston Martin its only overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The same season also brought the manufacturer the World Sportscar Championship, making 1959 the high point of Aston Martin’s works sports-car racing era.

The DBR1 is sometimes mixed up with the road-going DB series, such as the DB4 or DB5. Although the names share the DB initials, the DBR1 was a purpose-built racing machine rather than a production grand tourer.
