Which major event will Qatar host in 2022?

The story behind the answer

Qatar hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2022. It was the 22nd edition of FIFA’s men’s international football championship and took place from November 20 to December 18, 2022.

Qatar’s selection was historic: it became the first Middle Eastern and Arab country to host the tournament. The event was played across eight stadiums, including Lusail Stadium, which hosted the final. Argentina defeated France on penalties after a 3–3 draw, winning its third World Cup.

The tournament was also unusual because it was held in November and December rather than the traditional June and July window. Qatar’s intense summer heat led FIFA to move the competition to the cooler part of the year, interrupting the usual European football season.

A common mix-up is confusing the FIFA World Cup with the Olympic Games or the Asian Games. Qatar did not host the Winter or Summer Olympics in 2022; Beijing hosted the Winter Olympics, while the 2022 Asian Games were postponed and later held in Hangzhou, China, in 2023.
