Which major did Tiger Woods win at St Andrews in 2000?

The story behind the answer

Which major did Tiger Woods win at St Andrews in 2000? He won The Open Championship.

The 2000 Open Championship was played from July 20–23 at the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland. Woods, then 24 years old, won with a total of 269, finishing 19 under par and eight strokes ahead of Thomas Bjørn and Ernie Els. It was his first Open Championship victory and his fourth major title.

Woods controlled the tournament from the start, opening with a 67 and following it with rounds of 66 and 67. His final-round 69 completed a wire-to-wire victory. He became the fifth golfer to complete the career Grand Slam by winning the Masters, U.S. Open, Open Championship and PGA Championship during his career, and he was the youngest player to do so at that time.

The St Andrews victory was also the second leg of Woods’s famous “Tiger Slam.” He won four consecutive majors across 2000 and 2001, although they did not all occur within one calendar year. The Masters was held at Augusta, while the U.S. Open was won at Pebble Beach.
