Which Louisiana city is the first scheduled port of call for OpSail 2026?

The story behind the answer

New Orleans is the first scheduled port of call for OpSail 2026.

Operation Sail, commonly called OpSail, is a maritime celebration featuring tall ships and naval vessels. The 2026 edition is planned as part of the United States’ 250th-anniversary observances and is expected to be one of the largest tall-ship gatherings since 1976.

The published 2026 itinerary begins in New Orleans from May 28 through June 1. Ships are then scheduled to visit Norfolk, Baltimore, New York City, and Boston during the approach to and aftermath of Independence Day.

New Orleans is the first listed stop, not the only Louisiana location connected with maritime history. The city’s position on the Mississippi River and its long role as a major port make it a fitting starting point for a national maritime celebration.
