The London Eye traditionally hosts London's New Year's Eve fireworks display.
The giant observation wheel stands on the South Bank of the River Thames near Westminster Bridge. Since 2000, it has served as a major visual centerpiece for London's midnight celebrations, with fireworks launched from barges on the river and from positions around the wheel and nearby landmarks.
The display is organized by the Mayor of London and is typically watched by large ticketed crowds along the Thames as well as by television and online audiences around the world. The fireworks illuminate landmarks including the London Eye, the Elizabeth Tower area, and the riverfront.
The London Eye itself opened to the public in 2000, originally as a temporary millennium attraction before becoming a permanent landmark. It is sometimes called the Millennium Wheel, although London Eye is its established modern name. The fireworks are a city celebration, not a display operated solely by the wheel.
