The London Eye has hosted London's major New Year's Eve fireworks display beside the River Thames since 2000.
The London Eye is a giant observation wheel on the South Bank of the Thames, close to Westminster Bridge and the Palace of Westminster. London's modern public fireworks tradition developed around the Millennium celebrations, and the display later became an annual event associated with the London Eye and the riverfront.
Fireworks are launched from the wheel, nearby barges, and locations along the river, creating a display visible from central London. Big Ben is an important timekeeping landmark for the countdown, but it is the London Eye that gives the event its most recognizable visual centerpiece. The display is ticketed in designated viewing zones, while broadcasts reach audiences well beyond London.
