Which Liverpool primary school did George Harrison attend?
Answer
Dovedale Primary School
Answer
Dovedale Primary School
George Harrison attended Dovedale Primary School in Liverpool.
Dovedale Primary School was in the Liverpool suburb of Wavertree, close to Harrison’s childhood home at 12 Arnold Grove. Harrison attended the school before moving on to the Liverpool Institute High School for Boys, where he later became a schoolmate of Paul McCartney.
Dovedale is especially notable in Beatles history because John Lennon also attended the school. The two future Beatles were not simply connected through the band: they shared part of their early education in Liverpool, although Lennon was several years older than Harrison. Pete Shotton, one of Lennon’s lifelong friends, was another notable former pupil.
A common mix-up is to identify the Liverpool Institute as Harrison’s primary school. It was his secondary school, and it was where his musical path increasingly overlapped with McCartney’s. Dovedale belongs to the earlier stage of his childhood, before Harrison joined the Quarrymen and eventually became the Beatles’ lead guitarist.
