Which Liverpool band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988?

The story behind the answer

The Beatles were the Liverpool band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

Formed in Liverpool in the late 1950s, the Beatles became the central force of the British Invasion after their breakthrough in the United States in 1964. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr combined concise pop songwriting with vocal harmony, studio experimentation and a rapidly evolving stage identity.

The Rock Hall inducted the group as part of its 1988 performer class, alongside the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, the Drifters and the Supremes. Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones presented the induction, linking two of rock’s most influential British bands.

The Beatles’ group induction should not be confused with the later individual inductions of their members. John Lennon was inducted as a solo artist in 1994, while Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr later received individual recognition in different years. The 1988 honor was for the band itself.
