Taipei 101 hosts Taipei’s famous New Year’s Eve fireworks display.
Taipei 101 is a skyscraper in the Xinyi District of Taipei, Taiwan. Its New Year celebration uses the building’s exterior as a giant launch and lighting surface, making the tower itself the central visual feature of the event. Fireworks are commonly accompanied by synchronized illumination and music.
The building opened in stages around the turn of the millennium and was officially opened in 2004. At 508 metres, it was the world’s tallest building from its completion until the opening of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in 2010. Its distinctive tiered design is often interpreted as echoing stacked traditional Asian architectural forms.
The fireworks show is sometimes described as a display “at Taipei 101,” rather than a separate festival with a single universally fixed title. Weather, safety arrangements, and the programme can change from year to year. The landmark itself, however, is the stable answer: Taipei 101.
