Burj Khalifa in Dubai is known for a major New Year's Eve fireworks and light show.
The skyscraper stands in Downtown Dubai and is the world's tallest building, reaching 828 meters including its antenna. Its height and illuminated facade make it an especially visible centerpiece for large public celebrations. New Year's programs have combined fireworks with LED projections, lasers, fountains, music, and synchronized lighting around the surrounding district.
Burj Khalifa officially opened in 2010, after being inaugurated on January 4 of that year. It was originally known as Burj Dubai during construction, but was renamed in honor of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The nearby Burj Al Arab is another famous Dubai landmark and is sometimes confused with the New Year's Eve centerpiece. It is a sail-shaped luxury hotel, while Burj Khalifa is the needle-topped supertall skyscraper beside Dubai Mall. Event formats and official viewing areas can change between years.
