Burj Khalifa is the Dubai landmark illuminated during the city's famous New Year's Eve fireworks and light show.
The skyscraper stands in Downtown Dubai and has served as the centrepiece of major New Year's Eve displays, with projections, LED sequences, lasers, fountains, and fireworks coordinated around it. The building's height makes it visible across much of the city and gives the countdown a distinctive vertical focus.
Burj Khalifa opened in 2010 and is widely recognized as the world's tallest building. Its New Year's events have been watched by large crowds in central Dubai and by international television audiences. Some years have emphasized record-scale visual presentations rather than relying only on fireworks.
The Burj Al Arab is another famous Dubai landmark, but it is a sail-shaped hotel on the coast and is not the tower at the heart of the Downtown countdown. The two names are therefore easy to mix up.
