Answer
Itimad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb
Answer
Itimad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb
Itimad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb in Agra contains the tomb of Mirza Ghiyas Beg and is nicknamed the Baby Taj.
The mausoleum was commissioned by Nur Jahan for her father, Mirza Ghiyas Beg, who held the title Itimad-ud-Daulah, meaning “Pillar of the State.” Construction took place from 1622 to 1628 during the Mughal period.
The building is especially important in the development of Mughal architecture. It was among the first major Mughal structures built substantially from white marble rather than red sandstone, and its decoration includes delicate pietra dura inlay, carved screens, and detailed floral designs.
Visitors sometimes confuse it with the Taj Mahal because both are in Agra and use white marble. The Baby Taj predates the Taj Mahal and is smaller, more intimate, and closely associated with Nur Jahan’s family.
