Pandora is the 2016 South Korean film about a nuclear power-plant disaster.
Directed by Park Jung-woo, Pandora follows Jae-hyeok and other workers and residents after an earthquake damages a nuclear facility. The crisis exposes the dangers faced by plant employees and the consequences of delayed decisions during a catastrophic accident.
The film uses the mythological title as a metaphor for a sealed source of danger being opened. Its story is fictional, but it draws attention to public safety, emergency response, political accountability, and the human cost of industrial disasters.
Kim Nam-gil stars as Jae-hyeok, with Kim Ju-hyeok, Jung Jin-young, Kim Myung-min, and Moon Jeong-hee among the principal cast. Pandora was released in South Korea in December 2016 and later became available internationally through Netflix, increasing its audience beyond South Korea.
