Lionel Messi wore jersey number 30 at Paris Saint-Germain. He chose the number when he joined the French club in August 2021, returning to the shirt he had worn as a teenager when he first broke into Barcelona’s senior squad.
The choice surprised some fans because Messi had long been associated with Barcelona’s number 10 shirt and wore number 10 for Argentina. At PSG, however, number 10 was already held by Neymar, and Messi selected 30 instead. French football regulations traditionally treated 30 as a goalkeeper’s number, but an exception allowed the superstar to use it.
Messi made his PSG debut on 29 August 2021 against Reims. He scored his first PSG goal in September against Manchester City in the Champions League and later helped the club win Ligue 1 in the 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons. He left PSG in 2023 after two seasons in France.
