Which Jeep model won the 2020 North American Truck of the Year award?

The story behind the answer

The Jeep model that won the 2020 North American Truck of the Year award was the Jeep Gladiator.

The Gladiator returned Jeep to the pickup-truck market after the Cherokee-based Comanche left production in 1992. Revealed for the 2020 model year, it combined the Wrangler’s removable doors, fold-down windshield and open-air roof options with a five-foot cargo bed.

NACTOY jurors selected it over the Ford Ranger and Ram Heavy Duty finalists. The award recognized the Gladiator’s distinctive design, off-road ability and versatility in the midsize pickup segment. It was announced in Detroit on January 13, 2020.

A common mix-up is confusing this award with other truck honors or assuming the Wrangler won because of its stronger name recognition. The Gladiator is the pickup model, while the Wrangler remains Jeep’s iconic SUV.
