Which Japanese word names vegetable tempura?

The story behind the answer

Vegetable tempura is called yasai tempura.

The name combines yasai, meaning “vegetables,” with tempura, the Japanese dish of seafood or vegetables fried in a light batter. It can refer to a single vegetable, such as sweet potato or eggplant, or to an assortment of vegetables.

Common yasai tempura ingredients include pumpkin, lotus root, mushrooms, green beans, onion, shiso leaves, and sweet potato. The pieces are dipped in a thin batter made from flour, egg, and cold water, then fried briefly so the coating stays light and crisp.

Yasai tempura is not the same as kakiage. Kakiage is a particular style in which thin strips or small pieces of vegetables are combined and fried as a rough fritter, whereas yasai tempura usually presents individual vegetable pieces. Tempura vegetables may be served with tentsuyu dipping sauce, salt, and grated daikon.
