Which Japanese railway company operates the Tohoku Shinkansen?
Answer
East Japan Railway Company
Answer
East Japan Railway Company
East Japan Railway Company operates the Tohoku Shinkansen.
Usually known as JR East, East Japan Railway Company runs the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo toward northeastern Japan. The route reaches Shin-Aomori and connects with services continuing to Hokkaido through the Seikan Tunnel. It is one of Japan’s major high-speed corridors.
The line opened in stages, beginning with the section to Morioka in 1982 and later extending northward. JR East also operates related services such as the Akita and Yamagata mini-Shinkansen, which branch from the Tohoku route.
The company is often confused with JR Central, the operator of the Tokaido Shinkansen. Japan’s Shinkansen network is divided among several regional JR companies, so identifying the operator depends on the specific line.
