Which Japanese manga creator wrote Pandora Hearts?
Answer
Jun Mochizuki
Answer
Jun Mochizuki
Jun Mochizuki wrote and illustrated Pandora Hearts. The Japanese manga was serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy magazine from 2006 to 2015 and collected in 24 tankōbon volumes.
Pandora Hearts is a fantasy mystery series influenced by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. Its story follows Oz Vessalius, a young nobleman whose coming-of-age ceremony ends with his imprisonment in the Abyss and a contract with a mysterious entity.
The title refers to the fictional Pandora organization and also evokes the broader cultural image of Pandora and forbidden knowledge. It is not an adaptation of Hesiod’s myth, and its characters and world belong to Mochizuki’s original fantasy setting.
The series received a television anime adaptation in 2009. That adaptation covered only part of the manga’s story, while the manga continued to its conclusion in 2015. This is why readers looking for the complete ending generally turn to the original manga.
