Which Japanese general signed the surrender document immediately after Mamoru Shigemitsu?

The story behind the answer

Yoshijirō Umezu signed Japan's surrender document immediately after Mamoru Shigemitsu. Umezu represented the Japanese armed forces as Chief of the Imperial General Staff.

The order of signatures reflected the two parts of Japan's delegation: Shigemitsu signed for the Japanese government, and Umezu signed for the military. Both signed the Instrument of Surrender aboard USS Missouri on 2 September 1945.

Umezu had been a senior Imperial Japanese Army officer and had opposed surrender during the final debates. Even so, Emperor Hirohito's decision required Japan's military leadership to accept the Allied terms. Umezu later became one of the defendants at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East and died in prison in 1949. He is often confused with Korechika Anami, the war minister who opposed surrender and died during the failed August 1945 coup attempt.
