Which Japanese author wrote 'The Devotion of Suspect X'?

The story behind the answer

Keigo Higashino wrote The Devotion of Suspect X, a 2005 Japanese mystery novel and the first book in his Detective Galileo series.

The story follows a gifted mathematician who helps a woman conceal a murder, creating a battle of intellect between the police investigator and the person designing the cover-up. Higashino’s background in engineering and his interest in scientific reasoning strongly inform the novel’s tightly constructed puzzle.

The book won major Japanese mystery honors, including the 2006 Naoki Prize and the Honkaku Mystery Award. Its English translation, published in 2011, was also nominated for the Edgar Award for Best Novel. A common mix-up is confusing the author with the novel’s detective, Manabu Yukawa, who appears in the broader Detective Galileo series but did not write the book.
