The Italian dessert combining coffee-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cream and cocoa is tiramisu.
Tiramisu is a layered Italian dessert made with savoiardi, or ladyfingers, dipped in coffee and covered with a mixture centered on mascarpone. Cocoa is commonly dusted over the top. Although it is often served chilled, tiramisu is not itself an ice cream or gelato dessert.
The name is commonly translated from Italian as “pick me up,” a reference associated with its coffee content. Tiramisu is sometimes confused with affogato because both can involve coffee and dairy, but affogato is typically ice cream or gelato served with hot espresso, while tiramisu is a layered spoon dessert.
