Which Italian coachbuilder designed the body of the Aston Martin DB5?

Carrozzeria Touring designed the body of the Aston Martin DB5.

The Italian coachbuilder, formally known as Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, created the DB5’s elegant grand-tourer bodywork. The DB5 was an evolution of the final-series Aston Martin DB4, retaining the basic design language while introducing mechanical and equipment upgrades.

Aston Martin built the DB5 in England, at Newport Pagnell, under licence using Touring’s Superleggera construction method. That method used a lightweight framework of small tubes supporting thin alloy panels, helping produce a relatively light body with the clean, flowing proportions associated with the car.

The DB5 is sometimes confused with later Aston Martin collaborations involving Zagato, Bertone or Pininfarina. Those firms did design notable Aston Martin models, but they were not responsible for the standard DB5 body. The model was produced from 1963 to 1965 and became globally famous after appearing as James Bond’s car in Goldfinger.
