Santos beat AC Milan in the 1963 Intercontinental Cup. The Brazilian champions prevailed after three matches, overcoming a 4–2 defeat in Milan before winning the return leg 4–2 and the playoff 1–0 in Rio de Janeiro.
The first leg took place at San Siro on 16 October 1963, with Milan taking the advantage. Santos responded in the return match at the Maracanã on 14 November, leveling the contest on points. Under the competition’s rules, that required a playoff two days later.
In the deciding match, Santos won 1–0 through a Dalmo Gaspar penalty. Pelé did not play in the return and playoff matches, but he had scored twice in the first leg in Milan. Santos’s victory gave the club back-to-back Intercontinental Cup triumphs after its 1962 success.
