The island country with Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte as its legislative capital is Sri Lanka.
Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, commonly called Kotte, is in the Colombo District of Sri Lanka’s Western Province. It is the seat of the national legislature, while Colombo remains the country’s major commercial center and hosts many executive and judicial institutions.
Sri Lanka moved its parliamentary functions from Colombo to Kotte in the early 1980s. The new parliamentary complex was formally opened on 29 April 1982 on an island in the Diyawanna Oya, a marshy area transformed through dredging and land reclamation.
The city also has deep historical roots. Kotte was the capital of the medieval Kingdom of Kotte, and the longer name means roughly “resplendent city of growing victory.” A common mix-up is to answer Colombo: Colombo is the better-known city, but Kotte is the legislative capital.
