Which is the largest of the Spanish Balearic islands?

Majorca, also known as Mallorca, is the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands. It is the biggest island in the archipelago and is also Spain’s largest island by area.

The island lies in the western Mediterranean, east of mainland Spain. Its capital, Palma, is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. Majorca is much larger than its fellow principal islands, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, making it the geographic center of the group.

Majorca’s landscape includes the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range along the northwest coast, fertile central plains, rugged cliffs, and extensive beaches. Puig Major, rising to 1,445 metres, is the island’s highest peak, although access to its summit is restricted because it lies within a military area.

English commonly uses “Majorca,” while “Mallorca” is the modern Spanish and Catalan form. They refer to the same island, so a quiz may accept either spelling. Ibiza is internationally famous for nightlife, but it is considerably smaller than Majorca.
