Which Iranian desert is known in English as the Great Salt Desert?

The story behind the answer

The Iranian desert known in English as the Great Salt Desert is Dasht-e Kavir.

Dasht-e Kavir, also called the Kavir Desert or Great Salt Desert, lies in the middle of Iran's central plateau. It stretches across parts of several provinces, including Semnan, Tehran, Isfahan, Yazd, and Khorasan. Its broad salt marshes, seasonal lakes, mudflats, and salt-crusted playas give the desert its English name.

The salt forms when mountain runoff collects in low basins and then evaporates under intensely dry conditions. The desert includes Kavir Buzurg, or Great Kavir, and Namak Lake on its western edge. Rig-e Jenn, a remote dune region traditionally associated with spirits or jinn, is another well-known landscape within the wider desert.

A common mix-up is Dasht-e Lut, another famous Iranian desert. Dasht-e Lut is noted for extreme heat and dramatic eroded landforms, while Dasht-e Kavir is especially associated with salt marshes and evaporite surfaces.
