Which investment bank was founded by Robert F. Greenhill in 1996?
Answer
Greenhill & Co.
Answer
Greenhill & Co.
The investment bank founded by Robert F. Greenhill in 1996 was Greenhill & Co.
Robert F. Greenhill was a prominent Wall Street adviser who helped pioneer the modern mergers-and-acquisitions business. He joined Morgan Stanley in 1962 and later created and led its M&A department, one of the first dedicated groups of its kind at a major investment bank. He subsequently served as chairman and chief executive of Smith Barney.
Greenhill established his own advisory firm in New York in 1996. Unlike a full-service securities dealer built around trading and underwriting, Greenhill & Co. became known primarily for independent advice on mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, financings, and capital raisings. Its work included advising large corporations, governments, and financial institutions.
The company later became a publicly traded boutique investment bank and expanded internationally. In 2023, Japanese financial group Mizuho completed its acquisition of Greenhill & Co. The other choices are also recognizable investment-banking names, but they were founded by different people and in different years.
