Which international organization develops global principles for insurance supervision?
Answer
International Association of Insurance Supervisors
Answer
International Association of Insurance Supervisors
The International Association of Insurance Supervisors develops global principles for insurance supervision.
The International Association of Insurance Supervisors, commonly abbreviated IAIS, brings together insurance regulators and supervisors from jurisdictions around the world. It promotes effective and internationally consistent supervision of the insurance sector and supports cooperation among authorities.
The IAIS publishes supervisory principles, standards, and guidance covering areas such as governance, risk management, capital adequacy, group supervision, and policyholder protection. Its Insurance Core Principles are intended as a globally recognized framework for assessing insurance supervision.
The IAIS is not an insurance company and does not generally regulate individual policies directly. National or subnational authorities supervise insurers in their own jurisdictions. The IAIS instead helps coordinate supervisory expectations and addresses risks that can cross borders through internationally active insurance groups.
