Which international insurance regulator association was founded in 1994?
Answer
International Association of Insurance Supervisors
Answer
International Association of Insurance Supervisors
The International Association of Insurance Supervisors, or IAIS, was founded in 1994.
It brings together insurance supervisors and regulators from jurisdictions around the world. Its work supports cooperation, information sharing, and more consistent supervisory principles for insurers, reinsurers, and insurance groups operating across borders.
The IAIS develops global standards and guidance, including the Insurance Core Principles. It also works on supervision of internationally active insurance groups and on financial-stability issues affecting the insurance sector.
The IAIS is not an insurance company and does not sell policies. It is also distinct from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which have broader financial and economic mandates. The association’s secretariat is based in Basel, Switzerland.
