Ola acquired TaxiForSure in 2015. The deal brought one of India’s early app-based taxi platforms under Ola’s expanding network.
TaxiForSure was founded in 2011 by Raghunandan G and Aprameya Radhakrishna. Unlike a fleet-owning taxi company, it connected customers with taxis and other transport operators through a technology platform. Its model helped popularize app-based cab booking in Indian cities.
Ola, founded in Mumbai in 2010 by Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati, was TaxiForSure’s larger rival. In March 2015, Ola acquired the company in a transaction reported at about ₹1,237 crore, or roughly US$200 million. TaxiForSure’s brand and operations were later folded into Ola.
A common mix-up is confusing this acquisition with Ola’s later purchase of other mobility businesses. TaxiForSure was not acquired by Uber, Lyft, or Didi; it was an Indian competitor absorbed by Ola during the intense mid-2010s ride-hailing competition.
