Which Indian-born British artist created Chicago's Cloud Gate sculpture?

The story behind the answer

The Indian-born British artist who created Chicago’s Cloud Gate sculpture is Anish Kapoor.

Kapoor was born in Mumbai in 1954 and moved to Britain for his art education, studying at Hornsey College of Art and the Chelsea School of Art. He became known for large-scale sculptures and installations that explore space, reflection, color, and the relationship between an object and its surroundings.

Cloud Gate was installed in Chicago’s Millennium Park and unveiled in 2006. Its seamless, highly polished stainless-steel surface reflects the skyline, the park, and the people gathered beneath it. The sculpture’s popular nickname, “The Bean,” comes from its curved, bean-like form, although Kapoor’s official title emphasizes the work’s cloudlike, reflective character.

The sculpture is sometimes confused with a building or with the work of other prominent contemporary artists. Kapoor designed Cloud Gate, while engineering and fabrication required extensive collaboration. Other well-known Kapoor works include Sky Mirror, Leviathan, and the ArcelorMittal Orbit. His career also includes the Turner Prize, awarded in 1991.
