Which ILO convention requires equal remuneration for men and women for work of equal value?

The story behind the answer

ILO Convention No. 100 requires equal remuneration for men and women for work of equal value.

The International Labour Organization adopted the Equal Remuneration Convention in 1951. Its central principle is that pay equality should cover not only identical jobs but also different jobs judged to have equal value.

The convention defines remuneration broadly, including ordinary wages or salary and other payments made directly or indirectly by an employer. It calls for objective job evaluation methods where necessary, so comparisons do not depend solely on job titles.

Convention No. 100 is different from ILO Convention No. 111. Convention No. 111 addresses discrimination across employment and occupation more generally, while Convention No. 100 concentrates on sex-based remuneration equality.
