“Broken” opens the sixth season of House M.D.

The episode is a two-part season premiere focused on Gregory House's stay at Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital. After the events of the fifth season, House voluntarily seeks treatment for his dependence on Vicodin and confronts the effects of addiction, isolation, and impaired judgment.

Unlike a typical House episode, “Broken” spends much of its runtime outside Princeton-Plainsboro and gives sustained attention to psychiatric treatment and House's relationships with other patients. It originally aired in the United States in September 2009 and was broadcast as a special two-hour premiere.
