Which Honda sport bike replaced the CBR900RR in 2004?

The story behind the answer

The Honda sport bike that replaced the CBR900RR in 2004 was the CBR1000RR. It continued Honda’s Fireblade lineage while increasing displacement to 999 cc.

The CBR900RR, introduced in 1992, became famous for combining superbike performance with unusually low weight. Its successors included larger-displacement versions such as the CBR929RR and CBR954RR, but Honda ultimately moved to the CBR1000RR name for the 2004 model year.

The CBR1000RR was also known as the Fireblade in many markets. It used a liquid-cooled, inline-four engine and adopted modern technologies including fuel injection and a compact chassis designed to improve handling. The model was developed during Honda’s collaboration with MotoGP technology efforts, although it remained a road-going production motorcycle.

A common mix-up is the CB1000R, which is a naked street bike rather than the direct successor to the CBR900RR. The VFR800 and CBR1100XX belonged to different sport-touring or high-speed touring branches of Honda’s range.
