Which Honda sport bike carried the model code RC30?
Answer
Honda VFR750R
Answer
Honda VFR750R
The Honda VFR750R carried the model code RC30. It was a limited-production sport motorcycle developed as a homologation platform for the World Superbike Championship.
Honda released the VFR750R in Japan in 1987, followed by Europe in 1988 and the United States in 1990. Its 748 cc liquid-cooled 90-degree V4 engine used racing-oriented technology, including gear-driven camshafts and a close-ratio gearbox. The bike also featured a single-sided swingarm and a solo seat, emphasizing performance over everyday practicality.
Only about 3,000 examples were produced, making the RC30 highly collectible. Its racing credentials were substantial: Fred Merkel won the inaugural Superbike World Championship riders’ and manufacturers’ titles on related Honda machinery in 1988 and repeated the achievement in 1989. The RC30 was succeeded by the Honda RVF750R, better known by its code RC45, in 1994.
