The Honda model sold in Japan as the Vezel was the Honda HR-V. Honda introduced the second-generation HR-V family in Japan under the Vezel name, beginning sales in December 2013. The same basic subcompact crossover was marketed as the HR-V in many other countries.
The Vezel was built on Honda’s Global Compact Series architecture, shared with models such as the Fit/Jazz. Its styling combined a raised crossover body with a coupé-like roofline and concealed rear-door handles. Honda also offered petrol and hybrid powertrains, including the Vezel Hybrid in Japan.
A common mix-up is the CR-V, which is a larger Honda crossover positioned above the HR-V. The BR-V and WR-V are separate regional models, although their names and compact dimensions can make them seem related. The name Vezel is derived from “bezel,” referring to the angled faces of a cut gemstone, combined with Honda’s “V” for vehicle. In later generations, Japan continued using Vezel while many overseas markets retained the HR-V name.
