Which Honda business jet made its first flight on December 3, 2003?

The story behind the answer

The Honda business jet that made its first flight on December 3, 2003, was the HA-420 HondaJet.

A proof-of-concept HondaJet completed its first successful test flight at Honda’s Greensboro, North Carolina, facility on December 3, 2003. The aircraft emerged from Honda’s long-running aviation research and was led in development by designer Michimasa Fujino, whose work on the concept began in the late 1990s.

The HondaJet’s signature feature is its over-the-wing engine placement. Mounting the two GE Honda HF120 turbofans on pylons above the wings helped create a more spacious cabin and contributed to the aircraft’s aerodynamic design. The jet seats approximately six or seven people, depending on configuration.

The MH02 was an earlier Honda research aircraft and a separate prototype, not the HondaJet. The HF120 is the engine used by the aircraft, while HondaJet Echelon is a later, larger business-jet program. The HondaJet received FAA type certification in December 2015 and entered customer service that year.
