The HondaJet is the Honda business jet made by Honda Aircraft Company in North Carolina.
Honda Aircraft Company is headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina, and is responsible for producing the HondaJet family of very light business jets. The aircraft grew out of a secret Honda R&D aviation project that began in 1986, long before Honda formally created the aircraft subsidiary in 2006.
Designer Michimasa Fujino developed the HondaJet concept during the 1990s. The proof-of-concept aircraft first flew on December 8, 2003, and the production HondaJet later received certification and began customer deliveries in 2015. Its most distinctive feature is the placement of its engines over the wings, an arrangement intended to improve aerodynamic efficiency and cabin space.
The answer is sometimes confused with Honda Aero, another North Carolina aviation subsidiary involved in producing engines. HondaJet is the aircraft name, while Honda Aircraft Company is the manufacturer. Later variants include the HondaJet Elite, Elite II and the larger HondaJet Echelon.
