In J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, Helga Hufflepuff founded Hufflepuff house.
Hufflepuff was one of the four Hogwarts houses established by the school’s founders. The house is associated especially with hard work, loyalty, patience, fairness, and a willingness to include students who may not fit another founder’s preferred qualities.
The other founders were Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. Their names identify the other three Hogwarts houses, which is why the founders are a frequent source of mix-ups in quick trivia questions.
Hufflepuff’s mascot is the badger, and its traditional colors are yellow and black. The house is sometimes unfairly treated as less important than Gryffindor, but Rowling’s books repeatedly present Hufflepuff characters as dependable and courageous members of the Hogwarts community.
