Which hobbit goes on an adventure with the dwarves?
Answer
Bilbo Baggins
Answer
Bilbo Baggins
Bilbo Baggins is the hobbit who goes on an adventure with the dwarves in The Hobbit.
Bilbo begins as a comfort-loving resident of Bag End in the Shire. The wizard Gandalf selects him to join Thorin Oakenshield and his company of thirteen dwarves, who are travelling to reclaim the Lonely Mountain and its treasure from the dragon Smaug.
Although Bilbo is initially reluctant and is mockingly described as a “burglar,” he becomes an essential member of the expedition. He uses courage, practical intelligence and clever wordplay to survive trolls, goblins, giant spiders and the encounter with Smaug.
The other options belong to Tolkien’s wider Middle-earth stories: Peregrin Took and Samwise Gamgee are important companions in The Lord of the Rings, while Frodo Baggins is Bilbo’s younger cousin and the central ring-bearer of that later story. Bilbo’s adventure is the defining journey of Tolkien’s 1937 novel.
