Ancient Egypt is the main setting of Assassin's Creed Origins.
The game takes place during the Ptolemaic period, chiefly in the first century BCE. Its protagonist, Bayek of Siwa, is a Medjay who becomes involved in the events that lead to the formation of the Hidden Ones, the historical forerunners of the later Assassin Brotherhood.
Origins presents locations including Siwa, Alexandria, Memphis, and the Nile Delta. The setting spans deserts, cities, villages, and tombs, allowing the game to explore both Egyptian traditions and the influence of Greek and Roman power.
The game is not set in the pharaonic era of the pyramids. Those monuments already stood for thousands of years by Bayek's time. It also precedes the formal medieval Assassin order shown in earlier games. Origins was designed as a foundation story explaining how the series' central organization began.
