Which historical agreement is honored by one of the 2026 America250 quarter designs?

The Mayflower Compact is honored by one of the 2026 America250 quarter designs.

The Mayflower Compact was an agreement made by English colonists aboard the Mayflower in 1620 before they established Plymouth Colony. It is often remembered as an early example of colonists pledging to create and follow a civil political community.

The America250 quarter design depicts two Pilgrims and the Mayflower, linking the agreement to the early colonial history that preceded the American Revolution. This is one of five quarter designs planned for the semiquincentennial coinage program.

The Mayflower Compact is not the same document as the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, or the Constitution. The Compact predates all three by many decades. Its inclusion reflects the broad historical scope of the anniversary coin program, which reaches beyond 1776 to earlier developments in American political history.
