Which historic bridge is used as a launch site for New Year's Eve fireworks in Sydney?

The story behind the answer

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is used as a launch site and visual centerpiece for Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks.

The steel arch bridge crosses Sydney Harbour between the central business district and the North Shore. During the celebration, fireworks may be launched from the bridge itself as well as from barges and other points around the harbour. Its illuminated arch and the nearby Sydney Opera House create the distinctive skyline seen in international broadcasts.

The bridge opened in 1932 and quickly became one of Sydney’s defining landmarks. Its road, rail, pedestrian, and cycle routes make it more than a decorative backdrop, although access and viewing arrangements change during the New Year event for safety and crowd management.

The bridge is sometimes confused with Sydney Tower, another prominent city landmark. Sydney Tower is a tall observation structure, whereas the fireworks landmark spanning the harbour is the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
