Which Hesiod poem tells the longer story of Pandora’s creation and arrival?

The story behind the answer

Works and Days tells the longer story of Pandora’s creation and arrival. Hesiod uses the episode while explaining why suffering and difficult labor exist in human life.

The poem describes Zeus’s retaliation after Prometheus stole fire for mortals. Pandora is fashioned by Hephaestus, equipped by the gods, and brought to Epimetheus. The account then connects her opening of a container with the release of troubles, while hope remains inside.

Theogony, another poem attributed to Hesiod, also mentions Pandora but does not provide the same extended narrative. The two works are therefore related sources, not interchangeable titles. Works and Days is also notable for combining mythological stories with advice about farming, justice, household management, and seasonal work.
